Jim Schallheim from the University of Utah presented a great interactive seminar on the relationship between debt contracts and lease contracts. Both conceptual and quantitative methods are employed - and debated throughout the seminar - to get a handle on the extent to which LT debt and leases are substitutes or complements. The seminar is based around a work-in-progress paper and is a fine example of how open ended interactive discussion and debate can help refine and imrove work-in-progress.
