Reports - how to test software reports?

A report is a read-only output of the software system. It can contain numbers or text, usually both. Testing a report includes testing the data, testing the presentation and testing for other factors.

Testing report data - Is the input test data shown correctly? Is the report based on input data? Are the calculated values correct? Is grouping correct? Is the text correct?

Testing report presentation - Is the report read-only? Is the report layout correct? Are the tables drawn correctly? Is data aligned correctly? Are fonts uniform?

Testing for other factors - Is the report performance acceptable? Is the report format distributable? Does the report print clearly and completely?
