Using Evernote at School

Evernote is a great tool for organizing notes, photos, recordings, and everything else school related.  Though not designed specifically for college students, Evernote is an amazing tool to use during your college years.  With Evernote on your smart phone, computer, and their site your notes and material will always be in reach and easily accessible.

There are many ways to use Evernote, here are the most popular uses in and out of the classroom.

Note Capture

Like many people, I have always preferred to take hand written notes.  Evernote gives you the flexibility to either take your notes directly in the software or importing handwritten notes.  After each class, you can use your smart phone to take a picture of your handwritten notes and import that picture in to Evernote.  Evernote then does back-end processing on the image to make it searchable.  All of your handwritten notes will now be searchable from within Evernote.  You will also have backup copies of all your lecture notes as well.  You can also use your phone to take pictures of the whiteboard/chalkboard if the professor allows it.

Voice Capture

With your instructors permission you can use Evernote to capture the lectures as well.  If you use Evernote to capture lectures, your lectures will be ready for review on all your devices.  That’s one of the great feature of Evernote, everything is synced across all of your devices.

Research

With the built in ability to capture web pages and importing documents Evernote makes a great research assistant.  The Evernote Web Clipper you can capture whole pages or just portions of pages.  If you receive any handouts these can be scanned in and imported in to Evernote as well.  Evernote makes it simple to gather all of your research in one place.

Skitch

Skitch is Evernotes newest product.  Skitch makes it easy to annotate and capture information.
Key Skitch Features…

Flash Cards

Another popular Evernote application is called Evernote Peek.  Evernote Peek uses the smart cover on your iPad 2 to create flash cards from  your content in Evernote.  This makes it convenient to quiz yourself when you have a few spare minutes between classes and while waiting in lines.

Evernote can be a big help with your college success.  From it’s ability to create, tag, and make note searchable. Using Evernote you can make sure you have all of your resources close at hand no matter what device you are using.
