Lecture Details

This video illustrates how to use the iPhone Compass App to show the difference between the Geometric and Magnetic Axes of the Earth. Most people assume that these are the same but actually they are not. The magnetic north pole (in reality the magnetic south pole) changes locations from year to year and can be offset from the true north by some amount of degrees. A traditional compass shows the location of magnetic north, not true geometric north.
